Upcoming Shows – Whiskey Tango Foxtrot – Rose and Crown Theatre

#Tweetingit – Nominations for Best Direction, Best Leading Actress, Best New Play, Best New Production weapons, strong language & PENGUINS = I’m in!

Having been to The Rose and Crown a number of times and seen many good shows there, I am always pleased to get the chance to head back there; next week will be my next opportunity when I go to see Whiskey Tango Foxtrot by Rebecca Crookshank.

Following its highly acclaimed run at Edinburgh Fringe, and four nominations at the Broadway Film Awards, Whiskey Tango Foxtrot, based on Rebecca Crookshank’s own time in the Air Force following her time from basic training through to the Falklands, is now on a tour of Britain.

Whiskey Tango Foxtrot promises to highlight the challenges women face in being defined by their gender, particularly in a male dominated environment. This is, of course, something which is regularly in the media and can sometimes get a bit much when, as a woman, I feel I am achieving great things in my career not despite or in spite of my gender but because I am good. (although I do understand the Armed Forces is a different beast)

If this were any other play without the critical acclaim or the swathe of award nominations that this one has, I might go in with some concerns and reservations about the potential of this turning into a man bashing production. I am, however, very much looking forward to this “deeply moving, hilarious and heart warming adventure” which I think will bring to the fore not only what it is like to be a girl in a boys world, but also give an insight into the life of someone in the RAF and what it is like the an individual in the disciplined environment of the Armed Forces

Reviewing on 14th March 2016
Whiskey Tango Foxtrot is at The Rose and Crown until 18th March and at the Tristan Bates Theatre on 4th and 5th April.
Running at various theatres around the country until 15th May
